How It Works

Each month when there were professional development days for the children in the elementary schools in Hay River, Aurora College held a family literacy day where adult learners and staff could bring in their children and do literacy activities with them. Clipart - computerThis involved having parents and children enjoy books together, do crafts, work on computer games and spend quality family time together.

The program served two purposes, it provided a family literacy program that was meeting the needs of both the parents and the children and it acknowledged the multiple roles of adult learners. Being a learner can be a challenge when you have other responsibilities.
