Punctuation Rules
Exclamation
marks suggest strong feeling.
Examples: Ouch! Help!
Exclamation
marks are also used for commands if they should be shouted or spoken
with strong feeling.
Examples: Attention! Don’t move!
Use
exclamation marks with sentences that follow strong exclamations
or explain shouted commands.
Examples: Finally! You got here! Run! There’s a
ghost!
We
mostly use exclamation marks when we are writing something that
was spoken with strong feeling. We should not use them just to add
excitement. The following sentences should be punctuated with a
period, not an exclamation mark.
Examples: I was really tired. He couldn’t believe
what he saw.
