Ways to Inexpensive Literacy Play

Things to do together.
- Count baby’s toes. Count babies fingers. 1-2-3-4-5
- Sing lots of songs to baby.
- Rock baby while you sing a lullabye.
- Play patty-cake.
- When your baby babbles, babble back (imitate her).
- Use your pointing finger. Trace the shape of letters on your baby’s belly.
Say the letter, A, B, C.
- Take baby’s hand and feel something soft, hard, squishy, etc. Say “soft”
“hard” squishy”.
- Blow gently on your baby’s face. Have baby blow on your face.
- Stick out your tongue. Get baby to stick out tongue.
- Show baby your teeth. Make the sound “S.”
Get baby to imitate you.
