graphic - drawing the earth orbiting the sun

The Earth's axis is not in an upright position, but at a slight slant position or tilt. The tilt of the Earth's axis is 23 ½ degrees away from the vertical position. It is this tilt of the Earth's axis and the Earth's rotation around the sun that gives us our seasons. The Northern Hemisphere is tilted towards the sun from March to September. In this area on Earth, it is spring and summer. At the same time, it is fall and winter in the Southern Hemisphere.

The seasons change again when the Southern Hemisphere is tilted towards the sun from September to March. It is then spring and summer in regions in the southern half of the Earth and fall and winter in regions in the northern half of the earth.

It is amazing how the spinning movement of the Earth creates the seasons, days and nights, sunrises and sunsets.
