Stained Glass Cookies
Method:
- In a large bowl, mix the butter, honey and sugar together. Add the water and stir until smooth.
- Add the salt, flour and baking soda. Knead the dough until it feels like clay.
- Wrap the dough in waxed paper and chill in the fridge for about 1 hour.
- While the dough is in the fridge, separate the candies into colours (This is a great job for small children). Crush them by placing them in
a ziploc bag and rolling over them with a rolling pin. Place each colour in a separate small bowl.
- Remove the dough from the fridge. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Roll the dough into long ropes between your hands. Make them about as thick as a pencil.
- Use the ropes to form shapes such as Christmas trees, holly leaves, stars or bells. Pinch the ropes together at the ends. They will be filled
with candy ‘glass,’ so make sure they are closed shapes.
- Place your shapes on a baking sheet covered in tin foil. Bake them for about 6 minutes.
- Remove them from the oven and fill each shape with a thin layer of crushed candy.
- Bake for another 6 minutes, until the candy melts.
- Let the shapes cool, and peel them off the tin foil.
