| What
is the Canada Child Tax Benefit?
It is a payment made to families every month,
to help raise children who are under 18. Sometimes we refer only
to its initials: CCTB.
Can I get the
CCTB?
You can, if all these things are true about
you:
- You are the
main person responsible for the care of a child younger than
18.
- You live
with the child.
- You are a
resident of Canada.
- You are a
Canadian citizen, or a landed immigrant, or a convention refugee,
or a holder of a minister's permit.

How
do I apply?
You must complete the form called Canada Child
Tax Benefit Application. You must also file a tax return every
year, because the government needs to know your family's net income.
When will
I know if I will get it?
About two months after you apply, you will receive
a Canada Child Tax Benefit Notice, telling you if you will
get the CCTB, and how much you will get. The notice will explain
how they calculated the amount you will get.
When will
I get my benefit payment?
You will usually get your benefit on the 20th
of each month. If you don't get your payment on that day, wait
five working days before calling to find out what is happening. |
