North Coast
It has a colder coastal climate and less fog than the southern region. The north communities includes: Nain, Davis Inlet, Hopedale, Postville, Makkovik and Rigolet. Out of the six communities, five are Inuit/Settler with one Innu community which is Davis Inlet. The rugged Torngat Mountains which rise to about 1,620 meters is only one of the many beautiful landscapes you will find in the area. The residents depend on seasonal fishing, hunting and trapping for their livelihood, with Arctic char and dried fish as a common meal in the north. In the coastal communities of the north coast you will find well stocked shops that offer a wide selection of Inuit soapstone carvings, skin slippers, mittens and a variety of handmade treasures. They also host winter activities, such as carnivals, dog sled competitions and snowmobile racing. |
