On July 1, 1967 Canadians celebrated Canada ‘s
one hundredth birthday. Exactly one hundred years before, on July 1, 1867,
the Dominion of Canada was born. The provinces which joined together in
Confederation at that time were Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova
Scotia. As more people came to settle the western territories, Manitoba
became the fifth province in 1870, and the other provinces joined later.
