Reading Comprehension #14016

  1. Jumping on the Bandwagon means assuming that the statements said to be held by a group of people must be correct without evaluating the facts or details.

    Example
Everyone at the party was drinking, so I should too.

  2. Appeal to Authority encourages readers to accept the opinions expressed by “experts.” Testimonials about isolated experiences or opinions are used in place of detailed and balanced presentations of facts.

    Example
Kelly Angus, world champion cyclist, says speed limits on most highways should be raised to one-hundred and eighty kilometres per hour. Kelly knows speed; the speed limit should be increased.

Study the tables on the following pages. They offer some tips on how to avoid “faulty thinking,” as well as how to make logical conclusions.
