The Contents of This CD

This CD folder ("Microsoft Word 97") is comprised of:
3 files – An Introduction, Teacher Guide, and Stories from the Field.
1 folder containing the six units in our project.
The file you're reading now, An Introduction, gives a short description of these files and folder, plus an overview of the Rekindling Traditions project. Another folder on this CD, "PDF Files of Units," contains the six units in a read/print only format (see page 3 for further information).

Rekindling Traditions benefited greatly from the wisdom and advice of various Elders, particularly Henry Sanderson (La Ronge), Ann Lefleur (Beauval), and Alec Campbell (Beauval).

Teacher Guide

The "Teacher Guide" serves as a professional development document for cross-–cultural science teaching and as an in–service guide to the six units in Rekindling Traditions. In the Teacher Guide, we present background information and ideas that guided our work. The ideas came from Aboriginal educators from around the world, from Aboriginal educators and Elders in Saskatchewan, and from our own experiences and perspectives. In addition, we discuss the integration of Aboriginal and Western knowledge of nature, drawing upon our six units to illustrate this integration. The Teacher Guide's "table of contents" clearly describes each section in the document. You'll be able to locate specific information quite easily.

Stories from the Field

In "Stories from the Field," we convey our experiences and advice related to contacting community people to learn their knowledge, involving them with the school, and gaining support from the community at large.

Units

Each unit deals with a theme significant to the community. These themes are suggested by the units' titles. The titles are listed here (alphabetically in English) along with the teacher-authors. When you read the cover page of the actual unit, its authentic name is shown first.
