ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

As with any project, many people have contributed to the final shape of this one.

The project was jointly funded by the National Literacy Secretariat, Department of the Secretary of State, Canada and the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education and Job Training.

Barbara Bowmar of Okanagan College was consultant to the project.

The following people served as an Advisory Committee to the project:

Gwen Armstrong, Ministry of Advanced Education and Job Training;
Gary Dickinson, Okanagan College;
Keith Dunbar, Centre for Curriculum and Professional Development;
Fran Miller, College of New Caledonia; and
Carmen Rodriguez, Douglas College.

Gary Dickinson's advice on the shape of the main instrument was particularly valuable.

Cheryle Wilson patiently and efficiently entered text and revisions into the word processor.

Over one hundred people were involved in one way or another in the field testing of the instruments in the province. Cooperating in this effort were: Bill Graham, Katie Molloy, Ann McQuaid, Carol Leyland, Mark McCue, Mary-Alice Johnson, Jan Sawyer, Betty Knox and Maxine Veach, and Richard Darville. The willingness of these people to be involved in a rather lengthy process at a busy time of year was much appreciated.

Numerous literacy colleagues and friends from across Canada willingly shared their knowledge and opinions about evaluation in the adult literacy field and provided samples of instruments and reports.

The range of discussion about evaluation and the desire to have a process in place are signs of growing maturity in the adult literacy field and emphasize the timeliness of this project. It has been a challenging and stimulating project on which to work and, I heartily thank all those who have contributed.
