You could also scramble sentence order within a longer passage.
To use this exercise with a low-level reader, use sentences from their language experience stories, or sentences with words in them that they would understand. For instance, make up sentences about the town or city you live in, teach the sentence to the participant, then scramble the sentence and have them unscramble it. This is a fun word activity that can be used with almost any SARAW participant. These idioms are easily recognizable, but can be challenging too. Be sure the participant knows that the words he or she is looking for have to do with animals and that these are sayings that they use everyday. You can modify the activity by asking the participant to think of a few animal idioms that he or she may use, writing them down, then moving on to the activity.
