Credit: Centre for Newfoundland Studies Archive, Collection 137, photo number 0317. The Anglican CathedralThis is what the Anglican Cathedral in St. John's looked like after the fire of 1892. This fire destroyed most of the downtown and left 11,000 people homeless. No one was killed. The fire was said to have started at Pennywell and Freshwater Roads, when a man dropped a pipe into some hay in a stable. |
