Emile has been attending the SARAW program at Bow Valley College since May 2001. He graduated years ago from the special needs school system, but could not read or write. A waitress at his last dish-washing job started teaching Emile to read and write. When she left to take a teaching job, he came to SARAW to continue to learn.

He attends SARAW two hours a week. Over the past three years, Emile has had four different volunteer tutors. Everyone enjoys working with Emile. He has a wonderful sense of humour, and is a very hard worker. In addition to attending SARAW, he also attends a part time program at Mt. Royal College. In 2002 he was awarded a literacy bursary recognizing his commitment to upgrading his literacy skills.
