Anonymous Learner - 1I started school when I was six years old and living in Mexico. I stopped school when I was twelve years old. At school I learned to read the bible, and to do some math. This schooling was good enough for my life in Mexico. But it was not good enough for living in Canada. When we came from Mexico to Alberta in the late 90’s, I could not speak or read any English at all. Then I started working on a farm, and I learned to speak English. After a couple of years, my wife and I started evening classes once a week. We learned to speak better, but the class was only one and a half-hours a week for six weeks. We didn’t learn very much, but every bit helped us. I was actually doing not too bad – until my back started giving me trouble. I decided to go back to school because life was so hard without reading and writing. I really like school, but I never knew school would be so hard. But I need to tell myself to take it one day at a time. When I am done school, I would like to take the Parts Technician Apprenticeship through Lethbridge Community College. I hope to find a job as a Parts Technician. |
