Choosing Work for My Portfolio Activity

  1. Look at your recent work, reviewing it to see if you used the skills you are trying to learn. What are these skills?
  2. Arrange your work in order, leading up to the best. You should keep all the evidence of what you did to develop each piece behind each final draft.
  3. Select your two best work samples. Place these samples of your ‘best’ work in your portfolio. Why did you choose these as your ‘best’ over your other work?
  4. Reflect on these ‘best works’ by answering the following questions on a separate sheet of paper for each piece:
    1. What makes this your best (second best) piece?
    2. How did you go about doing it?
    3. What was difficult for you? What problems did you have?
    4. How did you solve your problems?
    5. Did you set goals for yourself while doing this work? What were the goals?
    6. Did you take any special steps to make sure you reached your goals?
  5. Place your ‘reflection’ sheet in front of each final draft when completed.
  6. On a sheet of paper at the front of your portfolio, answer these two questions every time you add something to your portfolio (try setting up a chart with the date and the questions):
    1. If you already have work in your portfolio, think about the difference between your previous samples and your new ‘best’ samples. What new skills are shown?
    2. What are your new training goals?
