My childhood home was in Ottawa. I have one sister and one brother. We lived by the Rideau Canal; in fact we lived across the street from it.
One time in Ottawa I got lost in the mall. I was looking for my Mom. I was about three years old. I was scared and crying. My relatives lived on a farm, where I went horseback riding. I loved going horseback riding. I used to go almost every weekend. When I was a boy, I would camp in the bush. I liked to roast marshmallows on the open fire.
I went to Bright Hope School in Ottawa. I never learned anything there. Teachers would just look at you. I had one good teacher. She helped me a lot. We worked together in the summer. She taught me how to count numbers one to ten. When I was about ten I went to another school named Lawson. I actually stayed there. I took some upgrading in there. It was a special class, my sister went too but she didn’t sleep over like I did. It was a nice school. I had a nice best friend there and I also had a girlfriend there. It has since closed down.
When I was young I would help my Mom mow the lawn. We had rose bushes. I raked the leaves in the fall. There was a lot more snow in Ottawa than there is here, so I was shovelling a lot there. The good thing about all that snow is that I could make snow forts.
In the summertime, I liked to play ball hockey with my friends on the street. I went hiking with the Scouts. I still do work with the Scouts. We have planted trees for Canada, sold apples on Apple Day, made birdfeeders and birdhouses for sale and we sell firewood. Every year in June, we go camping in Oshawa. I really enjoy going hiking, seeing birds in nature, sitting around the campfire singing old songs and going to see the petting zoo in Oshawa.
