My name is Irene Juliana Hatos. I was named after my grandmother. I did not know my grandmother, but I heard that she was a beautiful person. She died before I was born. My grandmother lived in Hungary. I saw my grandmother in a picture. My family name means number six, just my last name from my father’s side of the family. I was born on September 7, 1957. I was born in Toronto, Ontario in a Hospital. It is called Toronto General Hospital.
My nationally is Hungarian and I speak a bit of it. No, I don’t know where and when my grandparents were born in Hungary. No, I didn’t know my grandparents. I never met them, so I don’t have any stories about them or from them.
I was told when I went to school for my first time I started to cry because
I was scared and I was picked on at the day care centre. When I went to Hungary
with my mother, we stayed at my aunt’s place. It was so hot that my mother
said, "I don’t know if I can stay here. I am going back home. You
can stay."
So, I did everything I could do so she wouldn’t go back
home. I gave her a cold face cloth and make her as comfortable as I could. My
mother said afterwards, "No, I won’t go home. It’s too far.
We just got here."
It was about eight hours to get there.
I don’t know the full names of my parents. My parents were born in Hungary and brought up there, too. My parents were nice and loveable and still are. My mother and father worked. I don’t remember what kind of work they did. My favourite aunt and uncle were Frank and Sara. They make me feel comfortable and happy when I saw them. I use to get money from them instead of gifts.
