Acknowledgements

I would like to thank the staff of the Regina Public Library, the Saskatchewan Literacy Network and Cumberland Regional College for their support and guidance throughout this project. In addition, the Advisory Committee contributed in countless ways. I would like to thank all the members for their wonderful ideas, expertise and dedication to the project. They read through a tremendous amount of paper, critiqued numerous drafts and often traveled long distances to attend meetings.

The members of the Advisory Committee were:

  • Lynne Barber, ESL Instructor (University of Regina / Regina Public Library Tutor)
  • Marion Billings, ESL Instructor (University of Regina)
  • Stacey Crooks, Literacy Programmer (Regina Public Library)
  • Lisa Erickson, Adult Literacy Coordinator (Saskatchewan Literacy Networks)
  • Lisa Nystuen, Program Consultant (Cumberland Regional College)
  • Angelina Weenie, Head of Indian Education (First Nations University)
  • Angelina Smljic, Former ESL Learner
  • Terri Peters, Literacy Programmer (Regina Public Library)

Throughout the spring of 2003, the manuals were pilot-tested at several locations throughout Saskatchewan. The facilitators put in a great amount of work and gave invaluable feedback. A special "thank you" goes out to Judy Craig, Carol McCullough, Terri Peters and Lisa Nystuen.

I would also like to thank Esther Sanderson for her insight, Ken Aitken for helping with editing the kit and Kim Blevins (SLN) for all her assistance.
