Before you read this unit, take a look at the following statements and decide whether or not you think they are true or false.

• Most people learn best in a controlled environment where there is a lot of structure (like school).
• Your learner may have a learning style that she prefers but she can learn using methods not specifically designed for that learning style.
• There is a connection between learning style and culture.
• The way learning styles are categorized is linked to culture.
• Assessing a learner (discovering strengths, weaknesses and needs) is important in order to set realistic goals during the tutorial sessions.
• Formal assessment (using tests that have been made) is the best way to assess a learner.
