On youth speakers of Kalaallisut, the Greenlandic language... Per Langgaard, a member of the Language Policy Working Group, presented evidence of a significant drop in the number of young people in Greenland who speak Danish as a mother tongue. He believes that this is due primarily to a drop in the Danish population following the establishment of home rule. As a result, young Greenlanders no longer enjoy the ‘free Danish education’ they once had, resulting in a growing number of children who speak only Kalaallisut.
