A power of attorney is a document like a mandate in
case of incapacity. In a power of attorney, you name
someone to manage your property or your person, or both.
A power of attorney may be limited to one act, or be
general in nature. You decide when the power of attorney
starts and when it finishes.
The main difference between a power of attorney
and a mandate in case of incapacity is that you must
be capable for the power of attorney to be valid.
If you become incapable or incapacitated, the power of
attorney immediately becomes invalid (no good).
A mandate in case of incapacity only applies once
the court has decided you are incapable.
