Students' Column
by Gary Porter

Barrie Literacy Council – Student Rep, T.R.E.E. Student Committee of Canada-Chairperson, Laubach Literacy of Canada Liaison, Blueprint Committee – Student Rep.

The Blueprint process has been hard for everyone but I truly believe the students best interest was in the forefront throughout the process.

We will still have a student sitting on the Board of Directors to make sure the student’s voice is heard at the national level.

The thing I am excited about the most is that we will have a student from each province attending the AGM each year. These students will be appointed by their province to represent fellow students needs, thus forming a student caucus. During the AGM meeting we will have a student meeting to share ideas, problems and the needs of students so the national representative can take any concerns to the Board. This will give Canada-wide student representation, which will be great. Every two years a new national representative will be elected from this student caucus.

All the work that has been put into the TREE Student Committee will not be lost. TREE will remain but in what capacity has yet to be determined.

Through this process, I believe, with increased representation throughout Canada, our student voice will be stronger than ever.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Ottawa this June.
