From the Mailbag

Dear Editor,
I am not a first-time reader but I always look forward to reading your paper. I was so impressed with the poem, "Memories of Grandpa," by Kenneth Bungay, that I felt I just had to take the time to write. He somehow captured the descriptive memories, that are so often in our minds about people we love, and he put these memories into words.

I am sure that for all those who read this poem, they are also taken to an old storehouse door where a brush was cleaned and a key used with an old thread spool. They saw another grandpa's face or good friend or even a dad. We know in our hearts that these memories are very much a part of our heritage. They are soon to be forgotten by our fastpaced future, but never forgotten in the hearts of those who remember those silent testimonies.

Thanking you for your time.

Yours truly,
Doreen Canning

Dear Editor,
Thank you very much for selecting my poem, "Memories of Grandpa," to publish in your paper. I was very elated indeed. Again, a special thank you for the copy of a letter you received from Doreen Canning, who, no doubt, is a very dear and sentimental lady. Her comments meant so much to me.

"Memories of Grandpa," is very special to me. The man I referred to as grandpa wasn't my grandpa. He was a man my parents and I lived with when I was very young. He became the grandpa I never knew and I was the son he never had.

Elderly people are indeed very unique and as they pass on, a part of our life goes with them, along with a part of history. Their memories, however, are infinite.

Once again, thank you very much.
Yours truly,
Ken Bungay

Dear Editor,
I read your paper for the first time on Tuesday February 6. I am a full-time university student and I am in my fifth and final year of studies. My major is Education (Primary) and my minor is Science. With an Education major, I found the paper to be very interesting, especially the story of Mary Hartson. I personally feel that she is an inspiration to all who read the article.

I would like to comment on the section of the paper titled "Straight from the Heart." I think that the Adult Basic Education students did a wonderful job on this section. I would also advise these writers to continue writing because it can be very rewarding.

Keep up the good work.
Gary Barrett
