People invited to take part in Economic Zones

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has divided the province into nineteen new economic zones. People and groups in these zones will have a say in planning the future of their communities. The hope is to create businesses and jobs that will last.

Each zone will appoint a board which will serve for a short period of time. Later, these boards will be replaced by Regional Economic Development Boards. People will run for election to these boards. Men and women will have an equal chance to take part.

Each board will prepare an economic plan for its area. People will be invited to have a say through public meetings, letters and telephone calls. The boards will work with government and other groups to carry out the plans for their zone. It is important that people get involved in this program, which is expected to make the province more prosperous.
