You Gotta Have HeartWe use the word heart many times in our everyday talk. We use words like hearty, heartfelt, heartening and heartwarming. We use such expressions as, “Your heart is in the right place,” and “Home is where the heart is.”

The heart is one symbol of Valentine’s Day. It stands for the love and caring we show for one another.

Valentine’s Day isn’t the only time we show others that we care. We give cards and gifts for Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, and anniversaries. These special occasions remind us how important it is to care for others.

But we don’t need to wait for a special occasion to show others that we care. We can do that at anytime. It is important to have heart on Valentine’s Day. It is also important to have heart all year long.

February 14 is St. Valentine’s Day. A man is expected to give something to the woman to show his love. Sometimes he gives her flowers. Sometimes he takes her out to dinner. Sometimes he forgets all about it. That’s when the trouble starts because she never forgets.

St. Valentine was a real person who lived hundreds of years ago. He used to send notes to people he loved to make them feel good. But one day the king cut off his head. The king didn’t seem to love Valentine very much. I don’t know why. Perhaps he sent a valentine card to the king’s wife. Anyway, he died from his injuries.

We remember St. Valentine as a good man. He taught us that love is important and that we should always tell others we love them. St. Valentine also taught us one other thing.

If you’re not careful, love can make you lose your head.

The person who knows everything has a lot to learn.
