| The Literacy Development Council Valmont Academy Funds were provided to establish an Early Intervention program. This
program will provide the preschool children with a variety of print and
recorded materials to take home each week. It will also give them an
opportunity to take part in activities led by an Early Childhood Educator. St. Matthew's Elementary Funds were provided to assist St. Matthew's Elementary implement a
Pre-Kindergarten and Remediation Program. The goal of this program is to
improve the entry level skills of selected students. St. Paul's Elementary School Funds were provided to assist St. Paul's Elementary School implement a
Pre-School Book Bag program. It is intended that this program will provide
parents with valuable resources to introduce early reading skills and promote a
love for reading in their children. Carmanville Pre-School Literacy Committee Funds were provided to assist Carmanville Pre-School Literacy Committee in
a Story Time Program. The objectives of this program are to support and
encourage parents to promote reading at home; to stimulate imagination and
curiosity; to formally introduce parents and children to the exciting world of
books; and to respect and support all children. Froude Avenue Community Centre Funds were provided to help sustain the Froude Avenue Community Centre YESP
(Youth Educational Support Program). One of the main goals is to link the
schools, community groups, parents and students together in order to address
the literacy and educational needs of the students. Buckmaster's Circle Community Centre Funds were awarded to assist Buckmasters Circle Community Centre in
establishing an Adult Literacy Development Program. The goal of this project is
to improve basic literacy levels among the residents of the community. Humber Literacy Council Funds were provided to assist the Humber Literacy Council implement the
Books for Babies program. One of the objectives of this program is to increase
parents/caregivers awareness of the benefits of reading to their children at an
early age. St. Bernard's Primary School Funds were provided to help St. Bernard's Primary School offer the PRINTS
(Parents Roles Interacting with Teacher Support) program for another year. |
