Angie's Success Story Angie
Snider came to Canada in 1998 with the goal of learning English. Not
only did
Angie fall in love with Canada, but she also met her future husband and
so,
after marrying, decided to remain in Canada. In her home town of Mexico
City, Angie
had had a successful banking career. However, when she received her landed
immigrant status in 2002 and started looking for work, she hit road block
after road block. Through a referral from another agency, Angie found
her way to Project Literacy.
She and her tutor, Barb Hagan, worked on developing a resume and practicing
interviewing skills.
The week after Angie completed her resume, she began job hunting in earnest
and almost immediately landed a wonderful position at HSBC. Angie’s
warmth, sincerity and “joie de vivre” have made her a valued
and much loved team member! We wish Project Literacy Welcomes Tutors, Jack and Judy Clark! Non-profit organizations, such as ours, are seeing more and more families volunteering together. Families find that volunteering together is a creative and fun way to make a contribution to the community while sharing a common interest. The Clarks received their tutor training in August ‘02 and have been actively tutoring since then. Thanks so much, Jack and Judy! “As a former senior director with a global brewer, much of my focus was directed internally at people development. By choice or by work demands I contributed little to the community outside of work. Now, having the opportunity to make a difference, I am presently assisting an enthusiastic learner in mathematics. I experience a fulfilling sense of accomplishment, personal growth, and more importantly, the satisfaction of being able to help another person.” “I am a wife and mother by choice and a teacher by profession. Jack, my husband, drew my attention to an ad placed by Project Literacy and suggested that we both contact them. The learner, who I share time and smiles with, is a special person with a commitment to succeed. Community involvement, support and learning opportunities, this is Project Literacy!” |
