Appendix F: Observation ProtocolSetting Content – Describe how the students' goals and the goals of the program are apparent. Describe how this is linked to the experiences and knowledge of the students. Context – Describe how the setting is linked to the students' goals and the goals of the program. Reflect on the underlying meanings of the setting, and the objects in the setting. Community – Describe the participants or community of practice in the setting. Describe who (people) and what (materials) the participants interact with in order to make meaning. How do they show their understanding, meaning–making or confusion? Participation – Describe how the learners participate or interact with each other and the learning materials in the setting. Is there collaboration, discussion, modeling, direct teaching, etc?
