'They are good readers... they want to be teachers ... they will get a
good job'.
To investigate the effect of the mentors reading aloud for fourteen in school months we collected data. The
children assessed the mentor program. Some of the responses of the boys and girls in grades four and five are
listed below. Key words and phrases that are self- explanatory about the way the children felt about the
program are bolded.

- It was really fun to have him come in for us and read a
book. He's a
good reader, and I
like the books that
he brings with him. I think he should not leave because [
he is] so good at it.

boy and a
girl. He is a

wonderful guy to read to you.

like them to come because they pick out really cool books. I
enjoy having people coming in to read to
students. The students from Saint Thomas University are a
wonderful thing. I

to our schools.
