to promote lifelong learning among OE members and motivate them to participate
in its Workplace Integrated Skills Program; develop trade-based training materials;
test the material; develop a basic skills assessment instrument and work to
integrate the program into its ongoing training programs. |

Basic Needs Assessment |
The group will ensure that people working in the construction industry possess
basic skills sufficient to enable them to respond to workplace changes and will
ensure that the industry remains competitive by gathering information in order to
design an effective basic skills upgrading program as a bridge to OEEDI's ongoing
training programs. |

Essential Skills in the Workplace Phase III |
The Operating Engineers Education and Development Institute will solidify its
work on literacy and the essential skills necessary for its occupations by creating a
computer-based version of its operating engineers curriculum, train tutors to help
overcome the issues of geography, pilot and gain provincial recognition for its
curriculum, promote lifelong learning among members, and act as a resource and
partner to others. The curriculum and the tutor trainer material will be available
across the country. |
