SkillPlan - BC Construction Industry Skills Improvement Council Reading Documents at Work The Council (SkillPlan) will develop a stepping stone course for trades where basic skills are a barrier to further industry training; design a training program for adult educators that introduces them to the actual reading requirements on the job; and explore using technology for delivery of upgrading pre-courses.
SkillPlan - BC Construction Industry Skills Improvement Council Essential Skills Occupation Activities through Capacity Building The project will develop Essential Skills occupation activities and build capacity by actively involving provincial/territorial participants in the development resource materials that are related to their community employment needs. It will help build/supplement the individual competency base of workers and create a support network of partners amongst Adult Educators, Literacy Educators, College. This project involves both partnership building and developing materials for SkillPlan’s ‘How Do Your Skills Measure Up?’ site.
SkillPlan - BC Construction Industry Skills Improvement Council English at Work - Linking Industry & Adult Educators The BC Construction Industry Skills Improvement Council (SkillPlan) in partnership with the Open Learning Agency will design and present a four day workshop to give adult educators real life experience with the reading and writing that happens on the job. Up to 20 educators will be given hands on experiences with three different trades with actual site visits. This pilot will be a model for elsewhere in the country. Support will also be provided by BC Ministry of Skills, Labour and Training and by registration fees.
SkillPlan - BC Construction Industry Skills Improvement Council Essential Skills and Success in Apprenticeship The project conducted a research of Essential Skills and Success in Apprenticeship and prepared a background paper for the November 2001 meeting of the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship in Ottawa. The paper was prepared at the request of HRDC as background to stimulate discussion on ES. The task was to highlight essential skills - reading, document use, numeracy, problem solving, etc., - define the issues and report on solutions or responses where they exist.
