"Improve Co-ordination across business, labour, government and the education system" was the most commonly selected priority in both the pre- and post-dialogue surveys.

Although the dialogue participants placed importance on a variety of actions in dealing with skills needs, there were particular actions that were more likely than others to be described as "very important." In addition, there were some actions that were much more likely than others to be identified as priorities. Based on this, participants' "Top 5" priorities were as follows:

  1. Improve Co-ordination across Business, Labour, Government and the Education System: This action was the most commonly selected priority in both the pre- and post-dialogue surveys. Seven out of ten participants judged this action to be "very important" in addressing skills needs in the context of an aging population.
  2. Encourage Higher Education and Lifelong Learning: Four out of 10 dialogue participants chose this action as a priority. One-half (49%) judged the issue to be "very important."
  3. Create Decent and Secure Job Opportunities for People: Both before and after the deliberative dialogue session, the need to create decent job opportunities was among the top five most commonly selected priority actions.
  4. Stem the Out-migration of Young People: Thirty percent of pre- dialogue survey respondents selected this action as a priority, with 43% describing it as a "very important" action.
  5. Ensure Young People Understand the Benefits of Working in the Skilled Trades: In both the pre- and post-dialogue surveys, this action was among the five most commonly selected priorities. About one-half or participants described this action as "very important."
