A more direct inducement of economic growth and job creation depends on the regularity of new security issues, such as initial public offerings (IPOs) or seasoned offerings by firms with established listings. The Investment Dealers Association of Canada reports current issuance as raising proportionally as much or more public equity capital to supply Canadian productive investment needs as is made available in the United States.Endnote 84
While only a fraction of the entire SME universe ever reaches the juncture where at they can enter the IPO market, the economic relevance of this act remains undisputed. One business advantage conferred by going public is access to potentially greater and more diverse supply through corporate stock and bond issues (as well as continued access to private placement).
