4. If and when you leave (when it is not an emergency):

a) Put in a safe place:

1. birth certificates — yours and your children’s
2. marriage contract
3. passports or immigration papers
4. insurance policies — yours and your children’s
5. jewellery, receipts of items bought by you or received by contract or will
6. school report cards
7. diplomas
8. negatives of family pictures

b) Keep in your purse or somewhere safe:

1. credit cards and cash on hand
2. driver's license
3. health and immunization books
4. social insurance cards
5. Medicare cards, hospital cards
6. bank books
7. membership cards in your name
8. keys to the house and the car
9. keys to the safety deposit boxes — yours and your family's

c) Pack:

1. clothing for you and the children that can be easily carried
2. medications and prescriptions
3. favourite toy for each child
