The Strait Region has one of the highest percentage of the population in Nova
Scotia without a high school diploma (46%) as well as one of the highest
unemployment rates (20.4%). If a high school diploma represents the minimum
educational requirement for today's labour force, then these figures suggest
that almost half of the working age population in this region may not be well
placed to compete in many sectors of our economy.
