Organization: McGill Students for LiteracyContact: Program: Active Reading with Children (ARC)* Target: The Active Reading with Children Program aims to reach out to children in the community and help them develop a love for books and reading. Description: Active Reading volunteers spend one to two hours each week reading and playing games with children at one of the schools or community centres with which we are affiliated. Partners: ARC volunteers are working with children at the following schools/centres:
Program: Youth Outreach Program* (YOP) is directed at working with youth-at-risk.
Target: Young men and women from ages 12-18. Description: One evening per week skills such as communication, creativity and self-expression are emphasized. These goals are accomplished through a variety of creative programs, from simple games to more complex activities. Volunteers work in teams, with up to eight people per group. The Youth Outreach Program currently works in five units in the greater Montreal area. |
