Skilled Labourer Heavy Construction – Worker Intake Model – Manitoba – June 2006

The potential labourer or heavy equipment operator goes through a screening process.

The job requirements (allows individual to self-assess) are:

• Personal suitability -environment
• Technical aptitude - potential
• Essential and Employability skills

From here, two options are possible. Option A and B both lead to the industry assessments.

Option A :
One-week pre-training and assessment program.
One-week course includes assessment at an entry level in:

• Safety
• EEE* skills
• Dangerous goods
• First Aid
• Aptitude for construction
• Technical equipment skills
• WHMIS
• Job search
• Work experience
• * English, Essential and Employability

Option B:
Initial registration for one-day field assessment.

The industry assessments include:

• Potential Employment
  • through a database or employment services
• Training Programs
  • that meet the Provincial standard
• Other
  • upgrading, adult learning centres, social services, literacy, work experience
• Skills Recognition Document
  • upon presentation of evidence
