What is organizational change?

Organizational change typically refers to significant changes that affect the entire organization. Examples of organizational change include the introduction of new programs, a new mission, accelerated growth, downsizing and the introduction of new technologies.

According to John Martin, author of Organizational Behaviour, the pace of change is faster now than it has ever been. Consequently, many organizations are struggling to cope. Change can occur because of external or internal factors. Below is a diagram showing some of the internal (in the grey) and external influences on an organization.
