NBCL The New Brunswick Coalition for Literacy (NBCL) has been in existence since 1988 and is made up of representatives from grass-roots literacy organizations and other institutions which have an interest in literacy, such as the labour movement, federal and provincial government departments, and the private sector. The New Brunswick Coalition for Literacy promotes literacy and provides support to the field, by providing professional development training to literacy practitioners, developing resources for the literacy community, and sponsoring conferences for learners and instructors. In 2003, the Coalition will be developing a literacy marketing, fund-raising, and volunteer management toolkit, sponsoring family literacy training, and is currently developing a province-wide Adult Learner Network. This network will be a means to support adults in their learning, to promote their successes, and to empower them to become role models and champions for others. NBCL provides a toll-free telephone number for first-contact literacy information.
