The Committee

A project organizing committee was established to oversee the project. Initially, it was composed of Patricia Nutter, project coordinator, David Johnstone, board member, Louis Provencher, board member and Ray Arsenault, the consultant.

It was decided to add two more persons to the committee. Claude Delisle, Executive Director of the Association des directeurs généraux municipaux du Québec (ADGMQ), and Jo Anne Werner, Associate Academic Dean, Heritage College, Gatineau, Québec.

The assistance received from Claude Delisle deserves special mention. Through his organization, he arranged not only to support our project, but also to send out over 270 surveys to Quebec municipalities. Given his enthusiasm and encouragement, he was invited to sit on our project team and he readily accepted.

The assistance received from Pierre Dupuis, CUPE Québec Director, Claude Hétu, CUPE Québec Assistant Director and René Fréchette, CUPE representative for arranging the mailing of all union surveys.

Jo Anne Werner was added to the project organizing committee because of her keen interest in this project and her offer to help in any way possible.

I would like to express my thanks to the project committee members for the guidance and very clear and complete instructions permitting the project to move along in an efficient manner leading to excellent responses from our surveys and expressed enthusiasm for “Fondation pour l’alphabétisation” and contacts within “Emploi-Québec”.

Thanks also to Louise Miller, Québec Federation of Labour; Sophie Labrecque, Foundation for Literacy Executive Director and her Assistant Director, Maryse Perrault; Alain Darveau, Conseiller en développement de la main d’oeuvre et de l’emploi Service aux enterprises, Emploi-Québec; and Richard Champagne, Director of the « Service régional de formation professionnelle en Outaouais » for providing valuable information on the state of literacy and identifying the resources available in Québec.
