All of these organizations are after the same dollar, and therein lies the problem. Once an organization put a call out for the services of literacy training, it can expect a flood of proposals from all or most of the above literacy deliverers. The competition amongst them is fierce.
Finally, Ms. Miller suggested we approach the Québec Federation of School Boards since its members deliver literacy training in all communities and may well have agreements with municipal governments across Quebec. The consultant was to arrange a meeting with the federation. However, Ms. Labrecque and Ms. Perreault of the Literacy Foundation advised us to approach the federation and community organizations once we are ready to undertake a needs assessment or a pilot project. This approach would give us the greatest amount of flexibility when it comes to applying for funding from the FNFMO.
The level of cooperation regarding the literacy project is very encouraging.
