Host organization: Circle Project

Program Coordinator: Joni Adamcewicz

Communities Served: Regina

Program Mission and Goals: The Circle Project provides support and programs based on the Aboriginal vision of wholeness, balance and healing. By promoting positive human development we encourage people to help themselves through education, cultural awareness, family and community.

Program Description: This project is based on an Aboriginal holistic experiential model that is learner-centered and activity-oriented. Ideas and feedback from the participants guide the direction of the project to meet their needs. Parents are guided in the development of their own literacy so as to be better equipped to serve as role models for their children. In doing so, they can create a deeper relationship with their children. This has an inclusive effect on all the members of the families. Practicing positive listening and talking skills through role-playing is featured along with story telling and problem solving. Participants in this program can also access the following services:

  • Food bank referrals
  • Food bank delivery
  • Fine option placements
  • Community relations
  • Client advocacy and support
  • Elder services

Source of Funds: Archdiocese of Regina, United Way, Career & Employment Services, City of Regina, Department of Social Services, Saskatchewan Action Plan for Children, National Literacy Secretariat, Regina Education & Action on Child Hunger, Saskatchewan Justice, Links to Employment.

Unique Features of this Program: Parents find that there is an improvement in relationships in their homes and with schools. The completion of this program often gives parents the incentive to take more self development courses.
