 Laughing
I can still see the smile on Scott's face when he
stood in that old row boat. I had the rain coat on and he wore
the captain's hat. We would always have the same fight over
who would get to wear that old cap. Somehow he Always won, At
least that's the way I've Remembered it. Together we
thought we were leading the world without ever leaving the sand
that the boats were anchored in.
I still think of those old boats in the sand and
what they meant to me. Last winter Scott sent me a Christmas
card with a letter, from a better place. He told me of how he
was working hard so that he could pay the bank. He told me life
is an ugly circle that never seemed to end. He didn't say
anything that I had not already known. Although he didn't
mention it I knew he had been thinking of those hot summers
by the lake both of us standing in those old boats
laughing.
