Before the National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) changed its name to Copian, Story of the Week was a popular feature of our website. We’d like you to know that all of our past stories are still available in our Learner story archives. By accessing the Archives page, you can search stories by location, author and year of publication. You can also search stories that had an audio component.
About Story of the Week
Adult learners were provided with the opportunity and space on our website to share personal stories of how they were able to overcome obstacles and learn to read and write. Stories came from literacy councils, community literacy groups and Adult Basic Education classes. The writings are from adult learners who were either enrolled in or had recently taken part in literacy classes or programs in Canada. Testimonials from students enrolled in workplace training programs are also included.
Tutors and instructors often submitted their students’ stories for publication in Story of the Week. We also obtained permission to use stories previously included in literacy newsletters and websites. The stories in our Archives reflect different writing styles including narratives, essays, poems and short stories. They are original writings that remain unedited.
Our sincere thanks go out to all the tutors, teachers and learners who submitted writings for Story of the Week.
