V. Home Reading
Participants and volunteers:
- Choose the books they wish to take home and
- Sign-in the books that they are returning from the previous
session and sign-out new books, using the form in Appendix A, Book
I.
NOTE: Keeping these forms in a separate
looseleaf binder for use by the total group facilitates the record
keeping.
The instructor:
- Distributes duplicated copies of Box 2 which explains the
Self-Questioning strategy for inserting in the duotang notebooks of
the participants.
- Suggests that participants practice the Self-Questioning strategy
orally at home when they are either reading to their children or
reading by them selves and
- Introduces, explains, and distributes the rationale and
directions for keeping a READING RECORD (see Appendix A,
Book I). Participants are also advised to keep their Reading
Records in their duotangs.
The Reading Record
contains personal responses to the stories participants read at home
and serves as a reference for the listening- speaking activity
(Literature Circles) that begin each session.
Let's look
at the form together. Tell us about your home practice sessions.
Bring back a completed recordfor the next class.
