SESSION THREE: DIRECTED INQUIRY
Specific Objectives:
- to provide a strategy to facilitate recall.
- to make connections between the types of questions used in the
Self Questioning strategy and retelling.
Procedure
I. Introduction
The instructor:
Makes the purpose of the activity clear by reviewing
the rationale under
lying the Self- Questioning strategy:
When we ask ourselves who, what, where, when, why, and how
questions while we read, it helps us both to understand and remember
the text because one of the most important things about reading is to
remember the main parts when we are finished.
Makes links between the 5 w and h questions highlighted in
the previous session (see Session Two - Summarizing Concepts).
3. Reinforces the frequency with which these question types
appear as a natural
part of reading and
4. Displays a chart containing the Directed Inquiry questions
and reviews its
contents (Box 5) and distributes a handout (Appendix E).
