IV. Summarizing Concepts
The instructor:
- Concludes by leading a post-activity discussion (as in Session
4), eliciting such information as:
What worked?
What were the difficulties encountered?
Are there any questions?
Did you need to adapt the story frame in any way.
- Reinforces the role that the linking phrases play in aiding the
retelling and
- Distributes blank story frames (Box 10 - the form for duplicating
is in Appendix E) and suggests that participants use the story frame
phrases along with the story map to cue their memory when book
sharing at home and in their Literature Circles at the beginning of
future sessions. (Participants place their story frame handout in
their duotang folders.)
- Allows time for book sign-out.
NOTE: Some groups may be more advanced than others in terms of
reading level. Different groups of participants within the same class
may read different stories. In this case the final discussion could include
the adaptations that groups made to the frame to fit different stories.
