II. Group Activity
The instructor:
- Directs the working groups to read the story together and to:
a) enjoy the humour and
b) notice the misinterpretations
that can occur if we take each word literally.
III. Making Connections
The instructor:
- Invites participants to share, by asking:
How
did the pictures help resolve confusions?
[The
pictures illustrate exactly the interpretation of the word or phrase
that each individual in the selection makes.]
- Solicits the sharing of personal, humorous, or embarrassing
experiences in which participants have misinterpreted expressions
and
- Suggests other Amelia Bedelia titles which participants may
enjoy, advising that they:
'Keep an eye out' for
similar books.
NOTE: To encourage independence in learning meaning
vocabulary, the instructor may wish to have participants collect
figurative expressions, copy them on paper strips and create a
bulletin board or "word wall" display
