The instructor:
  1. Directs the working groups to read the story together and to:

    a) enjoy the humour and

    b) notice the misinterpretations that can occur if we take each word literally.
III. Making Connections

The instructor:
  1. Invites participants to share, by asking:

    How did the pictures help resolve confusions?

    [The pictures illustrate exactly the interpretation of the word or phrase that each individual in the selection makes.]

  2. Solicits the sharing of personal, humorous, or embarrassing experiences in which participants have misinterpreted expressions and

  3. Suggests other Amelia Bedelia titles which participants may enjoy, advising that they:

    'Keep an eye out' for similar books.

NOTE: To encourage independence in learning meaning vocabulary, the instructor may wish to have participants collect figurative expressions, copy them on paper strips and create a bulletin board or "word wall" display
