A quality adult literacy and basic education program appreciates and respects the diverse cultures of the learners and incorporates them into the program.

  1. The program encourages learners to have pride in their culture.
  2. Learners share their cultural knowledge and skills as part of the program.
  3. The culture of learners is incorporated into the program, wherever possible.
  4. Local culture and history are included in the program.

10BNorthern traditional knowledge and language are integral parts of the program.

  1. The expertise of community people, such as elders, hunters, carvers and other artisans, is used in the program.
  2. Some learning activities take place outside the classroom in the context of the culture of the community.
